254 The bread oven of the Hof ter Musschen farm bakehouse

© Fournil HTM

[Food history] [Intangible heritage]

The bakehouse of Hof ter Musschen is a very old oven that still operates regularly, welcoming residents who wish to bake their bread in the traditional way. A group of local people has kept the oven alive since 2007. Baking becomes an opportunity to create bonds and share knowledge around bread. The activity highlights the magnificent natural site of the Hof ter Musschen meadows. A nearby field of old cereal varieties is cultivated by the association, forming a logical complement that also enhances the neighbouring windmill.
The animation around the baking sessions gives deeper meaning to an activity focused on quality food, shared experience and social connection. It explains how the oven works, presents the cereal field and introduces the possibility of taking part in recurring activities.

The workshop is given in French and runs continuously on Sunday between 12:00 and 16:30 (maximum 30 participants at the same time). Residents will bring the bread to be baked.

Access to the bakehouse is via the first path on the right when going up Avenue Hippocrate from Boulevard de la Woluwe.

In collaboration with Fournil de l'Hof ter Musschen asbl.
