At the beginning of the 1900s, Léon Moulart set up his flour mill along the canal, in a district then animated by intense industrial activity. Over time, a large complex developed before experiencing a more contrasted fate: several buildings disappeared and, when the site was sold in 1988, only two parallel volumes remained as witnesses to this history.
Acquired by a public cooperative, the ensemble was renovated and repurposed by Bogdan & Van Broeck. Inaugurated in 2016, COOP now houses a business centre and preserves, in deliberately raw spaces, several traces of its industrial past. The two buildings are connected by a glazed volume containing circulation, walkways, stairs and lifts. On the canal side, the façade, rhythmically marked by tall pilasters, recalls the architectural ambition of the former mill.
From its panoramic terrace, the view opens onto a Brussels landscape shaped by the Senne, the canal and human activity. COOP thus offers a reading of the major transformations of a district where industrial history continues to feed new uses.
