Throughout her career, painter Louise Héger returned again and again to sparsely inhabited landscapes: the Campine, the coast, the Fagnes and even Siena. In them she sought calm, solitude and independence, far from Brussels and from her work as a teacher at the Héger boarding school run by her parents. For a woman of her generation, travelling and pursuing a career as a landscape artist was far from self-evident.

This guided tour starts from the group of Héger paintings preserved at the ULB and places them within a broader recognition of the matrimoine in the university’s collections. A selection of works by women artists will be shown in the exceptional setting of the Marble Hall and the former Board Room.
