In the past, it was not unusual for post mills to be moved from one village to another. This was the case for the Luizenmolen, which came from an unknown place and was installed on the outskirts of Anderlecht in 1864. Moved again in 1874, it was placed on a mound next to its owner’s farm. The mill remained in operation until 1928. Its condition gradually deteriorated and it was finally demolished in 1955. The determination of a few enthusiasts soon brought it back to life. The plans were entrusted to Brussels architect Georges Piron and the Peel brothers carried out the reconstruction.

Today, its sails, with a span of 24 metres, drive two pairs of millstones weighing 800 kg each. Inaugurated in May 1999, this central post mill takes visitors back to a time dominated by rural life, manual labour and pre-industrial means of production. In the Brussels Region, the Luizenmolen, overlooking the green countryside of Neerpede in Anderlecht, is still one of only two operating mills.
