Built between the second half of the 14th century and the mid-16th century, the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter and Sant Guido is one of the most significant examples of Brabantine Gothic in the Brussels Region. Several renowned master builders contributed to it: Jean Van Ruysbroeck, also responsible for the tower of Brussels Town Hall, for the choir; Louis Van Boghem, architect of the royal monastery of Brou, for the porch; and Mathieu III Keldermans for the tower-porch and Saint Guido’s chapel. The building was restored between 1874 and 1898 by Jules Jacques Van Ysendyck, who also added the spire crowning the square tower.

Built at the centre of the village at the time, the church is striking for its imposing dimensions. For centuries, the collegiate church was an important pilgrimage site, where thousands of people from the surrounding countryside gathered every year at Pentecost to venerate the relics of Saint Guido. Under the Ancien Régime, a horse race was even organised around the building. Exceptionally, the organ case, bell tower and roof structures will be open to the public. Reaching the panoramic view over the surrounding districts requires climbing nearly 200 steps; the roof structures require about half as many. (Listed since 25/10/1938)
