For forty years, the Fraternités du Bon Pasteur have been carrying out their social and spiritual activities in a setting that is exceptional for its history, architecture and natural heritage. The estate comprises a listed building dating from the late 19th century, situated in the heart of a park that forms part of the Natura 2000 network.

Originally known as the Château de Putdael, the main building owes its current appearance to Alfred-Casimir Madoux, who, in 1885, transformed the former residence into a neoclassical manor house. The property was subsequently leased and then acquired in 1913 by the Duke of Orléans, who named it the ‘Manoir d’Anjou’.

The estate covers six hectares, landscaped in the English style. A vast lawn connects the manor house to a pond featuring an island, a romantic bridge and a rockery grotto. The grounds boast a remarkable variety of trees, including an avenue of plane trees, an alder grove and forty-five trees designated as ‘remarkable’. A true natural oasis in the heart of the urban landscape, it is a place of tranquillity, renewal and biodiversity conservation, carefully maintained by the Fraternités.

The site also bears witness to its history through the pavilions and two bunkers built during the Second World War, as well as the school buildings constructed by the Sœurs du Bon Pasteur.

For the past forty years, a community of families keeps this place alive. With the support of the Community Land Trust Brussels, they now wish to form a co-operative in order to sustainably preserve its social, spiritual and ecological purpose.
