The semi-natural Hof ter Musschen site brings together, over ten hectares, a marsh, wet meadows, wooded areas, a Brabant farm and a windmill that has become an integral part of the local landscape. This classic piece of local heritage was built in the 18th century in the Tournai region. It belongs to a once widespread type of mill: a post mill, on which the entire wooden body turns to face the sails into the wind. It was saved from destruction in the 1930s by Dr Duthoit. In 1960, his widow donated it to the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, which had it installed in the Hof ter Musschen meadow. Twenty years later, the mill was destroyed by fire, but it was rebuilt on its current site in 1988. Thanks to major restoration work in 2015-2016, it is now fully operational and attracts many curious visitors.
