203 Saint-Job, the hill in struggle

In the south of Uccle, Saint-Job still feels like a village within the city. The neighbourhood has a strong local identity, while its narrow streets and vegetable gardens preserve a distinctly rural atmosphere in places. Its history is therefore more than that of a former hamlet gradually absorbed into the Brussels urban area. It is also a story of green spaces, infrastructure projects that threatened them, and residents and associations who successfully fought to protect them. Alongside the history of the neighbourhood, the walk also looks at the role played by local committees in Saint-Job.
