Hidden in a green park in Uccle, the Nekkersgat mill is a former watermill whose origins date back to the 14th century. Powered by the Geleytsbeek, it was successively used as a grain, oil and paper mill before being saved from demolition by the municipality of Uccle in 1970, then listed and restored. Today, the site hosts artistic, craft, cultural and social activities that carry its history forward in a preserved natural setting.
Within this ensemble, the workshop created by Jean Seydel bears witness to 80 years of woodworking and metalworking. Objects were made here for opera, theatre, cinema and medieval performances, as well as string instruments. Guided visits, demonstrations and an introduction to forging reveal this craft know-how. During the workshop, participants will make a small forged object themselves.
