Since the 1840s, groups of cheerful Brussels zwanzeurs set off in fanfare from the city centre under the pretext of hunting prinkères, the Brussels word for cockchafers, in Uccle-Saint-Job. These outings gave rise to numerous festivities and libations in what was then still a rural hamlet. The tradition disappeared in the early 20th century, was revived in the 1970s on the Montagne de Saint-Job, then faded again. Since 2014, the Chasseurs de Prinkères have brought this folkloric and popular fanfare back to life, in a festive spirit open to young and old.
The activity highlights this singular history through an exhibition devoted to the fanfare, its predecessors and the objects that bear witness to this Brussels tradition.
