Under the name 1030 ZEISBEEK, the Bûûmplanters have been organising a volunteer scything team in Schaerbeek for several years. What began as a small-scale initiative has grown into a committed group of volunteers who maintain grasslands, meadows and vacant plots with scythes. During this demonstration in Josaphat Park, visitors can discover scything, ecological mowing management and the broader contribution this work makes to biodiversity and natural landscapes in Brussels.
Scything is a traditional manual method for cutting grass, grain or rough vegetation using a long curved blade attached to a long wooden or metal handle. It is an ecological, quiet and precise technique used in different cultures for nature management, orchards and flower meadows.
