The Ateliers Mommen continue the vision of their founder, Félix Mommen. From 1874 onwards, he had the Établissements Mommen built by architects Ernest Hendrickx and Henri Van Massenhove. Originally, this eclectic industrial ensemble combined a factory, a shop selling materials for visual artists, studios and a townhouse where Félix Mommen invited selected artists to exhibit in his Salon.
Today, the address is a place for living, research and creation. It is a lively and unique site in Brussels, where art and shared living nurture one another. The members of the non-profit organisation contribute voluntarily to the project’s development, particularly through programming, production, event coordination and audience work. The Mommen site stands out for the diversity of artistic and cultural practices among residents of different nationalities, cultures, generations and disciplines.
