This eclectic townhouse, which even had stables, received a façade inspired by the Flemish neo-Renaissance. In 1927, it was sold to Eugène Pelgrims, an industrial pharmacist, art lover and botanist. The estate once included a vast garden, corresponding today to the present Pierre Paulus Park, a major landscape landmark in the district. The interior reflects both historicist inspiration from the Flemish Renaissance in the salon and dining room, and Art Deco influences in the bedrooms, bathroom and winter garden. The latter preserves an elegant openwork concrete structure with bluish stained glass decorated with stars. The main oak staircase dates from 1905.
Maison Pelgrims appears as a stylistic and cultural landscape shaped by successive uses. From a private residence attentive to the living world to a public place dedicated to contemporary artistic creation, it illustrates the evolution of urban uses and the transformation of family heritage into shared patrimony, closely linked to its built and vegetal environment.
