Within the museum’s permanent collection, this guided tour uses maps, documents and objects to trace the many fascinating changes in Molenbeek’s landscape from the early 18th century to the present day. The route follows the shift from an emerging village to today’s cosmopolitan city, through geography, topography, different types of architecture and the steady advance of urbanisation over the decades. It also explores the municipality’s economic and industrial history, shaped in part by the transformations of the canal and by the now-vanished Allée Verte station, a reminder of the first railway line linking Brussels to Mechelen in 1835.
