The Migration Museum opened in October 2019 in a late-19th-century building in the heart of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. This municipality, which underwent major industrialisation from the late 19th century onwards, has always been deeply shaped by migration, a phenomenon with a much longer history. Today, 180 nationalities live together in Brussels on a daily basis. The museum aims to reflect this cosmopolitan character, as the symbol of a dynamic that is constantly evolving. By telling the stories of the first generation of guest workers, expatriates, war refugees and Europeans who settled voluntarily in Brussels, the museum invites visitors to discover different lived experiences through testimonies and memories, while also opening up dialogue and reflection. It shows that Brussels is the result of centuries of movement, a city with a changing landscape shaped by residents of all origins: workers, refugees, students and families. The garden, open to all, is a welcoming place for encounter.
