Henri Jacobs – Art Nouveau for all

M. Vanhulst © urban.brussels

Although less well known than his peers, architect Henri Jacobs has left his mark on the Brussels landscape.

An unassuming man who shunned recognition, he will nonetheless be familiar to many schoolchildren through his work as he is the only Art Nouveau architect to have devoted himself primarily to the construction of public and social buildings.

Known as the "school builder", he was responsible for 15 school complexes in the Brussels region over his 40-year career. These are still in use today, and many have been magnificently preserved.

Join us as we learn more about this unusual figure who strove to make beauty accessible to all.
