Walk

190 WIELS Marsh

[Nature]

Around WIELS, the Contemporary Art Centre in Forest, a marsh formed unexpectedly. After a slab was accidentally pierced, the site filled with groundwater, making construction impossible. Fauna and flora quickly took over, turning this wet wasteland into a place of remarkable biodiversity.
Local residents followed this transformation and convinced the Region to acquire the land in order to preserve its natural value. The walk reveals the marsh, its history, its recent evolution and the issues linked to its future. In spring, the site also offers the chance to hear the call of the bittern.

In collaboration with Brukselbinnenstebuiten.

This activity is part of the Renature Time! programme and is organised in collaboration with Brussels Environment.
