Designed by architect Adrien Blomme, the famous Wielemans-Ceuppens brewery now houses the Contemporary Art Centre and the Forest Cultural Centre. The imposing concrete building, restored while preserving its authenticity and historic character, was built in 1930 and combines Art Deco with industrial functionalism. The brewery, then considered one of the largest in Europe, reached its peak during the interwar period. Although it ceased activities in 1988, the imposing copper vats and certain elements of the original machinery were preserved. Still regarded as an emblematic architectural treasure of Brussels’ industrial heritage, the building offers an exceptional view over Brussels from its panoramic terrace, with the WIELS marsh in the foreground, a little-known urban cool spot with remarkable biodiversity.
