In the north of the Brussels Region, Evere is probably one of its least-known municipalities. Long rural and associated, like Haren, with the cultivation of witloof, it now has a double identity, somewhere between commuter municipality and office districts. Yet in its interstices, the old village core, caught between Chaussée de Haecht and the Schaerbeek-Formation site, still reveals many curiosities: picturesque lanes, a Romanesque church and centuries-old farms, as well as numerous green spaces whose existence is, rather surprisingly, linked to an abandoned urban motorway project. This walk also looks at the history and future of the impressive Schaerbeek-Formation site, its future conversion and the issues it raises.
