From the 1860s onwards, Brussels developed an ambitious network of parks linked by tree-lined avenues. This metropolitan landscape infrastructure remains one of the capital’s major frameworks today. The bike tour looks at the tree-lined axis as a spatial structure, its role in shaping the street — scale, aesthetics and use — and its potential in an age of urban transition. Brussels has a strong basis on which to build. As mobility changes, these axes can take on new spatial, ecological and social roles, with room for small places to rest, play or walk. The tour presents these infrastructures as landscape heritage in their own right and considers how they may evolve in the context of climate change.
