Built between the 13th and 16th centuries, the Cahtedral of St Michael and St Gudula is one of Belgium’s great Gothic monuments. Its twin towers have dominated the heart of Brussels for centuries, forming a major landmark in the urban landscape. Exceptionally open to the public, the South Tower reveals spaces that are normally closed.

The ascent begins at the main façade and the base of the large Last Judgement stained-glass window, before leading to the former workshop of the craftsmen who maintained the cathedral in the 15th century. The route then continues through the roof spaces and cornices of the nave, offering a privileged view of the Gothic architecture and its structures.

Higher up, the carillon reveals a monumental instrument whose bells have long marked the rhythm of Brussels life. After around 300 steps, visitors reach the upper section of the South Tower, where a 360° panorama opens onto the capital’s major monuments, historic districts and green spaces.
