16 Opera Landscapes – beyond the stage
[Intangible heritage]
La Monnaie has been a landmark in Brussels’ cultural landscape for centuries. It is a place where countless landscapes are made, transformed and projected. On stage, sets reflect aesthetic, social and cultural change: they summon past, present and future, unfold urban or rural landscapes, real or fantastic, and constantly reinvent themselves through new technologies and long-standing know-how. At the crossroads of disciplines, scenographers take on a role close to that of architects, designing temporary spaces to be inhabited. This guided tour offers an immersion in the stages of set production, from the design office to the assembly hall and rehearsal studios, where these landscapes take shape, come alive and transform through bodies, light and music.
In collaboration with La Monnaie.
