Daylight withdraws, signs awaken, façades fill with reflections and streets become rivers of colour. In winter, as the year draws to a close, garlands of light cross the streets and artificial constellations cling to the trees. It was not always this way. Once, a few flickering flames were enough to push back the darkness. Then came gas, and electricity. Today, light takes endless forms. Red attracts, blue calms, white cuts out silhouettes. Neon sometimes still vibrates, while LEDs draw sharp lines. These lights seduce, but they also weigh on the landscape and on the living world. Should they be dimmed? Removed? Or accepted as one face of our time? These questions accompany a sparkling, contrasting walk between Avenue Louise and Place Royale. A route where light, both useful and superfluous, reveals as much as it questions.
