Brucity, the contemporary administrative centre of the City of Brussels inaugurated in 2022, stands on the very site of the city’s first harbour. This sensitive and accessible look at Brussels begins with that buried memory. From the harbour to the central markets, from Parking 58 to the present building, the visit retraces the successive layers of one site and places them in their social and historical context before turning to the architecture of the contemporary building.
The route culminates on the ninth-floor rooftop, a 360° panorama over Brussels and its outskirts. The city centre on one side, Anderlecht, Molenbeek and, further away, Laeken on the other: the urban landscape unfolds as a clearly readable sequence of layers, places and histories.
