Walking Tour

Art Nouveau and Freemasonry

© urban.brussels

Eugène Autrique, Emile Tassel, Max Hallet and Maurice Frison were all clients of Victor Horta, who built magnificent Art Nouveau town houses (hôtels) for each of them. However, another thread linking these men was that they were all members of a masonic lodge called Les Amis Philanthropes (The Philanthropic Friends).

On this tour, visitors will learn more about the hopes, values and creativity that brought together architects like Horta and Hankar, artists and the patrons of many of the mansions of the area known as the cradle of Art Nouveau in Ixelles and Saint-Gilles.

In cooperation with Brussels Chatterguides.
