ARABESQUE – contemporary circus interprets Art Nouveau

© Natrimoine

Under the artistic direction of Brussels acrobatic company Back Pocket, in collaboration with photographic artist Zenzel and with the participation of students from Brussels circus school ÉSAC, the ARABESQUE project provides a reinterpretation of Brussels' Art Nouveau architecture through the circus and acrobatic arts.

This multidisciplinary exhibition, featuring photographic works, video and performances, aims to be eminently contemporary and vibrant. Designed and created by young people, it will encourage audiences to view the Art Nouveau movement with fresh eyes.

How do the circus arts and Art Nouveau relate to each other?

How can the contemporary circus highlight Art Nouveau buildings, their curves and sinuosities, inviting us to rediscover our architectural heritage?

Conversely, how can Art Nouveau bring out the physicality of the circus performer?

In cooperation with Halles Saint-Géry/Sint-Gorikshallen.
