102 50 years of the metro: discovering little-known urban heritage (departure from Schuman)
[Mobility] [Art in public spaces]
The Art & Architecture unit of Brussels Mobility explores the heritage of the metro and premetro network, which has helped shape Brussels’ underground landscape since the 1960s. This immersion goes behind the scenes of the stations: how they work, what gives them their identity and where their quality lies. Emblematic artworks, material choices, specific design features and technical constraints all contribute to the making of these remarkable places. The visit offers a chance to look at these unique spaces in a new way and to understand the urban challenges they addressed in the past and continue to address today.
Tour route: Schuman, Maelbeek, Arts-Loi, Parc, Gare Centrale, De Brouckère, Rogier, Bourse - Grand-Place - Espace QARTIER cultural centre.
One station on the route is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Toilets will not be available during the visit. Visitors may leave the tour at any time if they wish.
No transport ticket is required for the visit. Headsets will be provided to ensure better listening quality.
In collaboration with STIB.
