Neder-Over-Heembeek is a very old municipality, annexed to Brussels in 1921. Its rural past is still reflected in street names. Its name appears in history as early as the 12th century, with the Battle of Ransbeek, which gave rise to one of the legends of Manneken Pis. Along the Willebroek canal, the area underwent a major transformation in the 19th century, first welcoming country residences such as Versailles, Medon and Marly, before industrialising.
For the past two years, tram 10, the longest line in the STIB network, has opened a new axis in the municipality, around which housing and logistics facilities will be built. From the military hospital, an example of 1980s Brutalist architecture, the route leads to a new neighbourhood at whose heart lies an inclusive and ecological urban farm: Ferme Nos Pilifs.
