Intangible heritage
For their centenary, the Savonneries Bruxelloises are exceptionally opening the doors of their Laeken workshops. Founded in 1926, this family manufactory has preserved Brussels know-how in the production of solid soaps for a century. During the visit, the public will discover the different stages of production: preparation of the material, extrusion, moulding, stamping and packaging, as well as a remarkable collection of old brass moulds. Machines, gestures, scents and archives tell the evolution of a craft where artisanal tradition meets contemporary requirements. Embedded in Brussels’ industrial landscape, the soap factory also shows how productive activities, buildings and know-how shape the city. A rare immersion in a living workshop, between heritage, material and creation.
Please note: the floors may be slippery because of the soap-making process. Please wear suitable shoes.
