The Heysel plateau is a remarkable place to visualise the evolution of a landscape, between rural roots and urban destiny. As the highest point in Laeken, it offers an impressive view over Brussels. Once bordered by farms and large lime trees, then by imposing country estates, the site later hosted temporary pavilions in places where nature has since reclaimed its ground.
Through the story of Rue du Heysel, once appreciated for its dairy and rustic bridge, the visit shows how this area became natural again thanks to the tramline being placed underground. Osseghem Park completes the picture with a majestic beech grove that filled a former quarry. Relief, water, flora and human traces: all the elements of our landscape heritage come together here. Adults can travel back in time through historic images, while young “landscape explorers” receive a playful file to complete.
