137 The Brussels canal: past, present and future
[Repurposed] [Social spaces]
This bike ride follows the Brussels canal and explores its history, from its creation to its current role in the Brussels landscape, without forgetting the projects that will shape its future. Information is shared playfully through an interactive quiz, while also opening a reflection on our relationship with water: will swimming in the canal one day be possible, and how can Brussels reconnect with its largest water source?
The canal is part of our heritage and continues to shape Brussels. The route looks at its creation, its close link with the Senne, its industrial past, current urban transformations and future projects along its banks. It also invites participants to imagine a cleaner canal, new meeting places around water and the possible return of urban swimming as both a social and landscape issue.
This activity is part of a broader reflection with Brussels partners and other actors on how urban spaces can help strengthen social inclusion in the canal districts. It is given in French-Dutch-English.
Departure on Sunday at 10:00 (duration 2 hours, maximum 20 people).
Participants should bring their own bicycle.
