The Cité de l’Amitié and its surrounding walls

© Stéphanie Lannoye

Designed by architects from the AUSIA group (Michel Benoît, Jean De Salle and Thierry Verbist), the Cité de l’Amitié/Vriendschapswijk is the result of an innovative experiment to create housing for people with locomotor disabilities in buildings where the majority of residents are not disabled. The first project of its kind in Belgium, the social housing estate is halfway between a garden city and a group of apartment blocks. The tour will continue with a visit to Clos du Site/Landschapsgaarde and Clos Vander Biest/Vander Biestgaarde, offering a further taste of 1970s social architecture.

In cooperation with Arkadia.
