Walk

Around Place Dumon

© Bruxelles Bavard

The hamlet of Stockel/Stokkel was one of the settlements around which the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre/Sint-Pieters-Woluwe developed. Our walk around Place Dumon/Dumonplein will take us past some of the landmarks of urban development in this part of Brussels:

  • Stockel/Stokkel church with its use of concrete and stained glass;
  • the metro station with its fresco of 140 characters from the Tintin books, designed by Hergé himself;
  • the Cité de l’Amitié/Vriendschapswijk, a housing estate designed to enable able-bodied and mobility-impaired people to live side by side. Redolent of the movements of 1968, its participatory architecture marks a move away from high-rise buildings and a return to smaller structures, giving it something of a village feel, while its street names reflect the colours featured on the façades.
