In the early 1970s, Lucien Kroll's work was a striking example of participatory and socially engaged architecture. For UCLouvain's new university campus, he involved students and teachers in the design of the buildings. At Alma metro station, it was very much the professionals who had their say, and the result is still much admired today. What a difference from the neighbouring residential area, built on top of a car park, or the cold buildings of the hospital campus.
