Walk

From the horse racing track to Boitsfort station, a stroll along the Chaussée de la Hulpe (fully booked)

ULB © urban.brussels, 2022

Starting out at the Hippodrome, formerly a horse racing track, we’ll make our way towards Boitsfort/Bosvoorde station, heading along Chaussée de la Hulpe/Terhulpsesteenweg, which is flanked by buildings in an array of architectural styles from the post-war period to the present day, including apartment buildings, a nursing home and an embassy. Particular highlights will be the Glaverbel and Cimenteries Belges Réunies (CBR) buildings, two globally renowned examples of functionalism – a style geared, as its name suggests, to the demands of office life. Here, we’ll see how the use of certain materials and the plot layout also influenced the buildings’ design.

In cooperation with Brussels Chatterguides.
