Uccle/Ukkel is a multifaceted municipality, with green spaces in the south and streams flowing along its three valley bottoms. It was built up in the 19th century along various arterial routes: Avenue Brugmann/Brugmannlaan and Chaussée d’Alsemberg/Alsembergsesteenweg to the west and Chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg to the east. While it boasts no fewer than six railway stations,
its main defining feature is its highly diverse architecture, which makes it something of an open-air architecture school. Postmodernism is well represented, with at least 10 buildings to its name.
This walk will take you on a journey through the architecture of the second half of the 20th century, from the charming Square Coghen/Coghensquare and the avenue of the same name to the La Galaxie building in Avenue de l’Observatoire/Sterrewachtlaan.
Our trip through recent architectural history will take in a number of modernist and postmodernist milestones.

In cooperation with Klare Lijn.
