Brussels has delusions of grandeur
The Manhattan Project! This term encapsulates all by itself the 1960s craze for building high-rise office blocks and business districts. With its head (quite literally!) in the clouds, Brussels had aspirations to become an international business centre, resulting in dozens of high-rise buildings springing up like mushrooms in various parts of the city. While some projects were successful, others blighted entire neighbourhoods or were halted by the oil crises of the 1970s. What now remains of these major urban development projects? How can they be integrated into the city of today? What insights can they give us? Join this guided tour to learn more about this unique aspect of Brussels' heritage.
