Guided tour
European Commission Charlemagne Building (CHAR) (fully booked)
Join us for an exclusive tour of the Charlemagne building! Only the first 140 people to register will be able to visit this iconic European Commission building on the Schuman Roundabout.
The Charlemagne is one of the flagship buildings from the early days of the EU in Brussels. It was designed by Brussels architect Jacques Cuisinier for the European institutions at the Schuman Roundabout. The work was carried out between 1964 and 1967, alongside the construction of the Berlaymont building. From 1996 to 1999, the building was fully renovated to a design by Chicago-based architect Helmut Jahn. This work was undertaken in coordination with the Brussels firm Montois/Arias. Together, the architects designed a spectacular new blue glass skin that extends beyond the façades to create a transitional zone between the neighbouring residential areas and the office district. For the Heritage Days, the main entrance hall, the visitors’ centre, meeting rooms and other strategic spaces will be open to the public, offering a view of the glass façade and its structure from the inside.
Only four groups of 35 people each will have the chance to visit the Charlemagne building. Register now using the form below.
On the day of the visit, bring your ID or passport that was used to register online.
