Exhibition

The 20th century in Wallonia. From architecture to heritage

© AWAP

Inaugurated in 2003, the Espace Wallonie (House of Wallonia) is just a stone’s throw from Brussels’ Grand-Place/Grote Markt. Created by the architects from Atlante in cooperation with the designers from Axia, this site presents itself as a showcase of Wallonia in Brussels, highlighting the southern Belgian region’s talents and stand-out features, as well as hosting the VISITWallonia information centre. On Saturday 14 September, as part of the Heritage Days, the public will be able to visit the large exhibition room with its frustoconical wooden ‘living pillars’, conceived of as an allegory of the Walloon forest.

The current exhibition – The 20th century in Wallonia. From architecture to heritage – features a series of photographs from the book with the same title published in 2024. They depict a range of 20th-century Walloon architectural projects, from Art Nouveau and Art Deco to modernist, postmodernist, brutalist and functionalist, including private housing, public and cultural buildings, places of worship, medical, social or sports facilities and industrial heritage.

Exhibition in French.
