Walk

From the viaduct to the tunnel

Cancelled

Anyone crossing Brussels from Koekelberg to Place Rogier/Rogierplein or vice versa in the 1960s must have seen and indeed may have used the viaduct (built in 1958). Anyone taking the same route from 1986 onwards will have definitely used its successor, the Leopold II Tunnel (now called the ‘Annie Cordy Tunnel’).
These two structures, one overhead and the other underground, had a considerable impact not only on traffic but also on the appearance of the areas around Boulevard Léopold II/Leopold II-laan (Place Sainctelette/Saincteletteplein, Place de l’Yser/IJzerplein, Rue de Ribaucourt/de Ribaucourtstraat, etc.).
Our guided walk will start on the corner of Boulevard du Roi Albert II/Koning Albert II-laan and Boulevard Baudouin/Boudewijnlaan and end at Place Sainctelette/Saincteletteplein. Along the way, we will discover new constructions as well as the renovation of individual houses, which have brought new life to a neighbourhood long neglected by the viaduct.

In cooperation with E-Guides.
