Guided tour

Former studio of the painter Marcel Hastir, a living place of art, culture and memory (acts of resistance during the 2nd World War)

A little-known gem in the Léopold district, the Atelier Marcel Hastir was the home and workplace of a renowned Brussels painter for over 75 years, as well as a cultural hub for artists, musicians and free thinkers of all kinds. Barbara, Jacques Brel, violinist Arthur Grumiaux, Lola Bobesco and many other classical musicians, Abbé Pierre and Lanza del Vasto, a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, have all shared their art and thoughts here. During the war, Hastir hid Jews and members of the Resistance there, under the very nose of the nearby Gestapo. Saved at the last minute from demolition in 2002 and preserved as it was even after the master's death in 2011, the Atelier continues to host concerts, exhibitions and conferences. A meeting place par excellence for lovers of art, culture and history. A must-see! https://ateliermarcelhastir.eu/
