Walk

City centre architecture from the 1970s and 1980s

© Karin Vermeire

Come and discover the architectural treasures of the 1970s and 1980s in the heart of Brussels, immersing yourself in the bold, innovative designs of this fascinating but often overlooked period. Our walk will start with the majestic Marquis Building, just a stone’s throw from Saints-Michel-et-Gudule/Sint-Michiel en Sint-Goedele Cathedral. From there we will head to a polished concrete edifice that magnificently embodies postmodernist architecture. We will then take in two imposing buildings of the bank BNP, including a fine example of the brutalist style. We will round off our walk with the former Administrative Centre of the City of Brussels, which is currently being renovated. Get ready to be captivated by the visionary spirit of these revolutionary decades when architecture was a byword for progress!
