Along Avenue Houba: Art Deco walk at Heysel

© ARCHistory / APEB 2018

Avenue Houba de Strooper in Laeken became highly urbanised in the interwar period, particularly in connection with the 1935 Universal Exhibition at Heysel. It is home to numerous Art Deco buildings: bourgeois houses, apartment blocks and shops... The whole decorative vocabulary is expressed along this Laeken artery, with accents that are sometimes traditional, sometimes exotic, and sometimes already modernist.
Your guide will show you some emblematic Art Deco facades and architects, from Rue Ernest Salu to Rue du Disque, via King Baudouin Stadium.

In collaboration with the non-profit organisation Laeken Découverte | Laken Onthuld.
