Modernism and Park System in Anderlecht

© brewster

Welcome to the Astrid Park Café, your starting point for a unique Heritage Days experience. In cooperation with the Anderlecht Tourism Department, we’ll be organising a fascinating walk and screening a compelling film about the urban planning principle known as the ‘park system’. Inspired by the ‘sun, greenery, space’ ethos of the 1950s and 1960s, this principle had a profound impact on Anderlecht, one of the greenest municipalities in Brussels, with its 200 hectares of green spaces, 18 parks and various semi-natural sites.
During the walk, you’ll discover the architectural forms of the period and the types of planting popular at the time, while the film screening will highlight the development and impact of the park system, which was designed to combat social segregation. The Astrid Park Café is the perfect place to kick off your Heritage Days adventure. We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to celebrate together the rich history and green future of Anderlecht!

The film lasts 60 minutes, with screenings starting every hour on the hour. Activities will start at 11:00 and end at around 18:00, and you can come at any time during that period. Everything will be available in French and Dutch.
