Walk

La Mémé site

Lucien and Simone Kroll are renowned for their work on La Mémé (La Maison Médicale), built on the UCLouvain site in Woluwe in the period from 1970 to 1976. Viewed from the outside, the chaotic façade is a patchwork of materials. Deeply critical of industrialisation and standardisation, Lucien Kroll was a prophet of social ecology who listened to local people. Having been chosen as the architect by the medical students, he discussed the design with them at every stage of its development, taking into account the challenges posed by the building.
