Mosaics in the Magritte neighbourhood
In 2012, the Magritte Neighbourhood Committee won the Bruocsella Prize for the beautification of Brussels with its project Mosaic Identities: Homage to Belgian Surrealism. Was it possible to work with local residents to create 60 mosaic slabs bearing surrealist motifs and use them to create a route along pavements in the area? After completing training at the René Magritte Museum and a practical course at Art Mosaico, the residents took up the challenge with gusto. Since 2018, new slabs have been added to the route as part of redevelopment projects under the sustainable neighbourhood contract. Come and discover this colourful trail, complete with amusing anecdotes, and see what can be achieved when local residents work together.
