Meetings on all floors: historic lifts in the Brugmann-Lepoutre neighbourhood
Brussels has several hundred historic lifts. Normally off limits to the public, some examples of this little-known heritage will be accessible to visitors on this walking tour around Avenue Lepoutre/Lepoutrelaan, Avenue Molière/Molièrelaan and Place Brugmann/Brugmannplein. A number of apartment buildings in the area will be opening their doors, allowing you to feast your eyes on some of Brussels’ finest examples of these ingenious devices. You will find out about the inventory of historic lifts being compiled by Homegrade, and the challenges involved in their modernisation, as well as learning how this curious, vertical means of public transport has developed over time, both technically and aesthetically. So join us for this journey into the past, present and future, with a fascinating stor(e)y at every turn.
In cooperation with Homegrade.
