Exploring the VUB campus: architecture, art, meeting place!
A university campus is a meeting place par excellence: the hub of student life, it is also where students meet their tutors and lecturers.
This walking tour around the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) campus will focus on the architecture of various buildings: the lecture block Aula Q, the Rectorate Building designed by Renaat Braem, the student residences by Willy Van Der Meeren and the recent designs by Bogdan & Van Broeck and CONIX RDBM Architects.
You will also discover the many artworks that have graced the campus’s paths for the past 50 years. One of the oldest – Denker in alle staten (Thinker in All States), by postmodern artist Willy Van Den Dorpe – depicts a former VUB student. It is an adaptation of Auguste Rodin’s famous sculpture The Thinker, but with a weather vane on its head. Others are more recent, such as those by contemporary artists Johan Tahon and Philip Aquirre.
