Meeting in Brussels’ ‘pocket parks’

Here Brussels is seen from the perspective of its new parks and meeting places in the city’s northern neighbourhoods. After consultation with their residents, various parts of neighbourhoods, squares and parks have recently been redeveloped to make them more convivial and user-friendly. This tour will take in the parks of northern Brussels, including Parc Gaucheret/Gaucheretpark and Parc de la Senne/Zennepark, the latter named after the river on which the city was founded, which used to flow through the area. After crossing the canal, you will continue towards the ‘pocket parks’, encountering the residents who have appropriated these former brownfield sites or warehouses as their new meeting places. Whether they have been transformed into vegetable gardens, picnic spots, playgrounds or sports areas, all of them are spaces that lift the spirits.
